Perth Folk and Roots Club

Perth Folk and Roots Club is back with live folk and roots music at the Inglewood Bowling and Sports Club on Sunday 25th October 2020 with the support of the Inglewood Bowling and Sports Club and City of Stirling. The performances are from 5 pm to 8 pm at the Inglewood Bowling and Sports Club, 1 Stancliffe Street, Mount Lawley. For this event, the Perth Folk and Roots Club have Steve Tallis and three piece OhJa.

‘Perth Folk and Roots Club will be featuring Steve Tallis who will be playing songs from his recently launched new CD along with trio OhJa ‘, said Keith Anthonisz, President of the Perth Folk and Roots Club.

Steve Tallis recently launched his new CD, Where the Rivers Meet which will be available at his show at Perth Folk and Roots Club. Steve is Western Australia’s self-proclaimed blues shaman who has been performing and recording since the 1960’s and is a major figure in the Perth blues scene. Steve Tallis is well known for a mixture of blues, traditional folk and gospel with a touch of voodoo themes. Steve has produced a number of nationally and internationally acclaimed albums and has also been living and performing in Paris until recently. Steve has lived and performed in the USA, Europe, Mexico and Asia supporting some of the biggest names in music. Influences include Leadbelly, John Coltrane, Tim Buckley, Captain Beefheart, Sun Ra, Tony Williams Lifetime, Van Morrison, Howling Wolf, Tom Waits, Jack Bruce, Kip Hanrahan and Bob Dylan. African, Indian, Haitian and Islamic music have all had a spiritual and rhythmic influence. Steve was awarded an Arts WA Contemporary Music Fellowship in 2003 to study, compose and tour with master musicians in Africa, India and Greece. His album First Degree released in 2014 has an energetic electric sound from his trusty SG Guitar. Steve is looking to return to France in the near future.

OhJa is a recently formed trio whose repertoire features experimental jazz covers raging from Jobim to Childish Cambino. The trio features WA Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) musicians Jasmine Shea on vocals, Oliver Vonlanthen on guitar and saxophonist Alanna Chapman from the James Morrison Academy of Jazz. Alanna Chapman is also playing with Perth Folk and Roots Club regular Dilip Parekh in his new Dilip and the Davs line-up.
