Beat Collective: Electrify March 2019

Presenting the third instalment of ‘Electrify’, an exciting event featuring a specially curated lineup of both upcoming and established live electronic performers.

An immersive experience with dynamic and engaging visual displays by a local Melbourne VJ in an intimate venue layout, ‘Electrify’ showcases the variety of talent that the local electronic scene has to offer. Beat Collective prides itself on providing a super inviting, friendly, and inclusive atmosphere to make everyone feel safe and welcome.

Alpha Loopy:
Real beats and tunes created live, in front of your eyes. What started as an exploration of looping software, has now evolved into a full blown side project for Melbourne based singer/songwriter, Carolyn Oates, under the guise of Alpha Loopy. Oates had locked herself away in a little cabin in the Yarra Valley to experiment with some new gear and in a matter of a few weeks a new live instrumental project was born. Taking her back to her keyboard roots, she has created a spellbinding set of electro-pop music that is created live at every show. With influences from Massive Attack, 60's lounge, and Romantic period orchestral music, Alpha Loopy is a punchy act embracing aural atmospherics and breakbeat rhythms to get you dancing.

Sol Flare:
UK-based Sol Flare, a.k.a Dominic Wood, combines 80’s synths, driving beats and soulful vocal lines to create his own unique style of Electronic Music. Determined to forge his own path through today’s musical landscape Sol Flare draws from a large range of influence’s including 80’s/New Wave/Synthpop and underground dance music through to present day Electronic. In Melbourne for a short while before heading back to London, this is a great opportunity to catch this act while you can!

Orches:
Orches is piano and synthesizer-led songwriting from Melbourne-based solo producer Jordan Donnelly. Driven by dense rhythmic elements, the project sits somewhere between rock and electronica, with melodies bringing to mind Nick Murphy, SBTRKT and Panda Bear. Orches’ live show demonstrates guitar and synth musicianship, engaging the audience with ambitious arrangements and a bold vocal presence.

From the debut EP in 2015, Orches’ single ‘Denial’ gained considerable public interest. A rant about political ignorance, the track gained consistent airplay on Triple J, and caught the interest of local and overseas music writers. It also scored Orches an invitation to perform to a full house for the opening of Telstra’s Discovery Store in Bourke Street Mall.

With three singles and an EP behind him, 2016 saw Orches perform regularly in Sydney and Melbourne. He headlined local venues such as Revolver Upstairs and The Worker’s Club, and supported local acts such as Evangeline and Passerine, among others.

In an effort to build a stronger fanbase, Orches has spent the last 18 months composing a series of remixes for local artists, and continues to showcase new material through local support gigs. His latest track ‘1999’ is the latest release ahead of an EP due for release later in the year.

Etherway:
Etherway draws on elements of hip-hop, trap, and future bass to make beats that hit hard whilst focussing on melody and groove. Whilst a relatively new producer, he has performed at Melbourne’s Beat Collective showcase as well as regularly at Workshop.
